The Karrinyup Community Men's Shed is located in the suburb of Balcatta, Western Australia. The Shed is a project by the Rotary Club of Karrinyup.

Objects of Men's Shed

The objects of the Karrinyup Community Men’s Shed are:

- to promote the advancement of men’s health by preventing or alleviating social isolation.

- to create an inclusive environment for men to meet, create projects, learn, teach, and support each other, and enjoy the support of the working environment.

- for members to develop, redevelop or learn new skills which will enhance their self-esteem, and in turn provide a positive impact upon their lives, their family and the community.

These objects are set out in the Rules registered under the Associations Incorporations Act 2015

Note: The proposed update to the Rules of Association amends these objects. These changes will not come into effect until the amended Rules are adopted by the members and accepted by the WA Department of Local Government, Industry Regulation and Safety, Consumer Protection.

Our Men's Shed aims are:

- to enjoy each other's company, promote self-worth and work ethics, while developing and sharing skills for the benefit of both the individual and the community.

- enable men from many social and ethnic backgrounds to mix and learn. It's a place for men of all ages getting together, sharing fellowship and discovering the satisfaction of creation through the hands, and in turn changing the perception of the mind.

Women in the Shed

A pilot women’s program was commenced in April 2024 in response to a growing need. Having proven to be a success, up to 13 women now attend one or two half day sessions per week.

Want to learn how to use power tools? Learn and support each other in creating woodworking projects in a friendly and inclusive environment.

Fridays and/or Saturdays 1pm – 5pm, 6 Jedda Rd, Balcatta.

More women members are welcome. Contact us for more details.

Custom projects

The Shed is interested in making custom projects for customers. Some are covered in photos and details of items worked on by members. Contact us for more details.

Safety manuals

KMS has introduced an annual mandatory safety refresher program for all members.

The program is for members who have been with the shed for more than twelve months and will involve an assessment of their safe use of shed machines.

A suite of KMS Induction Manuals has been prepared to assist members with safety accreditation on each of the machines.

Expansion plans

KMS has a project to expand shed capacity. We have engaged with the City of Stirling and a business case is under way outlining a 2 to 3 year program to expand the shed facility by capitalizing on the existing site.

It is proposed that an additional 80 to 100 m2 expansion will provide space for better separation of existing activities, accommodation of new activities, improved dust control and enhanced safety, thereby meeting the inevitable demands of a growing member base into the foreseeable future.

Annual General Meeting 2026 and Meeting of Special Resolution

The 2026 AGM including election of Officers will be held at 11 am on Friday 18 September at the Shed. A Meeting of Special Resolution will be held on the same date.
