Shed Spring Cleaning Days - Monday 13th & Tuesday 14th Sept
Next Monday and Tuesday are designated cleaning days – as such, all other work will be suspended. Regular attendees on these days are urged to turn up to help and tasks will be allocated under direction.
This will be a top down clean involving the elimination of dust from all surfaces, a thorough clean of all machines and equipment, the removal and disposal of rubbish under benches, cleaning of windows and the cleaning of all ancillary rooms.
If you have projects stored anywhere please make sure they are clearly labelled with your name, otherwise they will be removed.
Karrinyup Community Men's Shed – Association AGM Thursday 16th September
You are reminded that the AGM will be held next Thursday commencing at 11:00 am sharp.
The AGM will be followed by a sausage sizzle – if you intend staying on for a gourmet lunch please put your name on the list on the crib room notice board. This is for catering purposes.
Progress on Infrastructure Projects
Regular attendees may have noticed progress on some infrastructure projects:
Completion of electrical upgrade to crib room enabling the installation of the cooker and range hood.
Installation of power outlet in under cover area.
Installation of extractor fan in craft room to achieve positive pressure to exclude dust – so keep the door shut!
Installation of pantry unit in crib room with drawer, bench top unit still to be installed.
Next stages
Commencing next week, installation of water bore, followed by gardens reticulation.
Installation of solar panels, subject to completion of approvals by City of Stirling.
Planning and installation of replacement garden shed and additional shed for projects storage.
Machine Downtime
The problems being experienced with the table saw and thicknesser are a frustration to all. We would like you to know that we are doing all that is possible to overcome issues with the suppliers. The thicknesser appears to be now 90% fixed, but the table saw is a longer term problem. Jim Barbas is in ongoing discussions with Carbatec to reach a resolution. One option may involve the loan of a temporary replacement saw.
Be Gentle with the Thicknesser
Incremental adjustments of the thicknesser are to be limited to ¼ turn per pass, or no more than 1mm. Anything more than this puts undue strain on the motor and shortens the life of the cutters. Remember, take your time, it is not a race and if you are not sure, ask the supervisor.
Coffee Mugs
Just a small issue, but of high importance. We are getting low on the supply of decent coffee mugs. Many are in a poor state and could do with replacement. So, if you can all help by bringing in one from home we can all enjoy the use of a good cup.
Memberships
Our fully paid memberships are expected to exceed 85 in the next week or so. If you know of people who are interested in joining, this is a good time to tell them to do so before we are forced to close the books. We will certainly pause new memberships when we reach 90 members so we can gauge the impact. Any new members applications after this date may be placed on a waiting list.
